Camden Kids
Business Plan Overview

The Problem, and Our Solution

Reasonably priced high quality child care is in high demand on the north side of Minneapolis. This is a low income transitional neighborhood with many high risk children. These children are vulnerable to neglect and violence and need a safe place to be cared for and educated. Our location housed a daycare for more than 30 years which will give us high recognition in the neighborhood even though it will be a new center.

Camden Kids exists to provide the highest quality faith based child care services that are aimed at providing children the social, behavioral and educational tools they will need for a successful transition into school. Our activity based curriculum is specifically tailored for child development according to the Minnesota State kindergarten readiness screening. Our school-age programs help mentor and tutor students through homework assignments as well as providing a safe place for children to learn, play and grow after school hours. Finally, our developmental programs reinforce basic social, listening, independence and motor skills and prepare students for future related interaction.

Market

The target customers are low income families in the Camden neighborhood who value the quality of education and child care provided for their children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. Our hours of operation will be 6:30 am to 6:30 pm.

Why Us?

There is no competitor in our market that is offering our concept, quality of educational program and child care services. The Camden Kids Children’s Center will fulfill an ongoing need for quality child care in the Camden community. The program focuses on developing a child’s social, emotional and educational skills while encouraging and fostering a foundation in faith. Our educational approach is unique, our positioning hard to match, but only if we maintain the focus in our strategy, marketing, business development, and fulfillment. We should be aware that the tendency to dilute this expertise with bargain shopping could weaken the importance of our competitive edge. Our location housed a daycare for more than 30 years which will give us high recognition in the neighborhood even though it will be a new center.

Competition

The daycare industry is highly competitive and there are too many small daycares to mention. We have three main large scale chain centers as competition. KinderCare, New Horizon Academy, and La Petite Academy.

Service Description:

Upon its opening, Camden Kids will offer three basic services in the Camden community of North Minneapolis:
  • Full-time Child Day Care
  • Part-time/After School Care (including drop-off and pick-up)
  • After School Tutoring
Prior to opening, the center will have a two-month enrollment drive. Based on the market reaction to the drive, these services may be altered to meet the needs of the community. The center will always remain nimble enough to respond to the needs of the community in which it serves.

Financing Needed

We will need to seek out startup funding for the daycare center. This funding must cover the purchase of all assets needed to get licensing. Start up financing we would need to acquire total $156,000. This would cover furniture, bus, digital sign, curriculum, laundry, and technology. We will seek financing through a variety of options, including donations from church partners and individuals committed to our mission.
