The Camden Promise
In the Lind-Bohanon neighborhood of the Camden Community in Minneapolis, three congregations find themselves amidst neighbors grappling with a multitude of challenges, including housing insecurity, unemployment, financial instability, poverty, substance abuse, gang activity, and violence. Recognizing the urgent need for support and intervention, these congregations have united under the banner of The Camden Promise, a collaborative effort dedicated to addressing these complex issues with compassion and diligence. Through The Camden Promise, we are committed to tackling these challenges head-on, one step at a time, and one individual at a time. As the non-profit arm of Gethsemane, The Camden Promise serves as a vital extension of our ministries, working to amplify our impact and secure additional resources for our community initiatives. Operating as a 501C-3 nonprofit organization, The Camden Promise operates in partnership with Gethsemane Lutheran Church and NuWay Baptist Missionary Church, both deeply rooted in serving the Camden community of North Minneapolis. Together, we stand united in our mission to uplift and empower our neighbors, offering hope, support, and tangible assistance to those in need.
Together, we are building hope through a variety of impactful initiatives aimed at supporting and uplifting our community. Through our Client Choice Food Shelf, we provide individuals and families with the dignity of choice, allowing them to select the food items that best meet their needs. Our Weekday Food Distribution ensures that nutritious meals are accessible to all, offering a lifeline to those facing food insecurity. During Thanksgiving and Christmas, we come together to share joy and fellowship through special dinners, spreading warmth and comfort during the holiday season. Our Summer Lunch Program welcomes people of all ages to enjoy nutritious meals together, fostering a sense of community and belonging. On Sunday mornings, our "Breakfast and a Bag" program provides nourishment for both body and soul, offering a warm meal and essentials for the day ahead. Wednesday nights are filled with fellowship and delicious food during our Church Night dinners, bringing our community together in shared purpose and friendship. And as summer draws to a close, we celebrate with an End of Summer Block Party, a time of laughter, music, and celebration, as we reflect on all that we have accomplished together and look forward to the future with hope and anticipation. Through these programs and events, we strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve, building a brighter and more hopeful future for all.
*Evangelist Temple was instrumental in forming The Camden Promise. Their congregation was dissolved in September 2012. Brooklyn Center 7th Day Adventist moved to a new location in the fall 2013 and is no longer associated with The Camden Promise.
